Valor Middle School College and Career Preparatory Academy is a choice school—any rising sixth grader can apply for the 2025-2026 school year! Valor is also zoned for Tradition Elementary and Honor Elementary.
What makes Valor different?
Valor is a college and career preparatory campus where all students are enrolled in honors-level courses and participate in the AVID elective. The school emphasizes collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving through a research-based curriculum. Parents are also supported through workshops focused on high school and college readiness.
What if my child doesn’t know if they want to attend college?
Valor still benefits students by developing essential life skills such as collaboration and critical thinking, along with exposure to various career pathways.
Will Valor students take high school-level classes?
Yes, all 8th-grade students will take Algebra and Biology, with additional opportunities for high school credit in courses like Spanish and Art.
I’m worried about my student’s readiness. What if they face academic difficulties?
Valor provides personalized support, including tutoring and AVID strategies, to help students succeed academically and build confidence.
What elective options are available during the pilot year (2025–2026)?
Students will take AVID and Art. A P.E. class may be offered if there is enough interest (held outdoors most days).
What is AVID?
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college readiness program focused on teaching students skills such as note-taking, collaboration, and college/career exploration.
What electives are required in middle school?
Texas requires two years of P.E. and one year of a Fine Arts course (art, music, theatre, or dance). Athletics may count toward P.E.
Are all programs available during the pilot year?
Not all programs or services will be available in 2025–2026. Students needing specialized programming (e.g., Band, Choir, Special Education, ESL, Dyslexia services) will attend Heritage Middle School that year. Full programming will be in place in 2026–2027.
We know every student learns differently. At Valor, personalized academic support is built into the school day.
Through AVID strategies, tutoring, and a strong teacher-student connection, students get the help they need to grow and thrive—regardless of where they start.
